Good – bye, Autumn – Welcome Winter!

Pupil 1. Fall is here.
Another year is coming to an end.
Summer's finished,
Summer's gone,
Winter's round the bend.
Fall is piles of crunchy leaves,
orange, gold, and red.
Pupil 2. Fall is sweaters with long sleeves
and blankets on the bed.
Fall is footbell,

Fall is pumpkins,
Fall's where summer ends.
And
Fall is coming back to school,
and seeing all my friends.
Pupil 3. Leaves are falling, soft as snowflakes,
Red and yellow, gold and brown;
The breeze laughs gaily in the treetops,
Shaking all the colo
ur down.
Pupil 4. When the trees their summer splendor
Change to raiment red and gold,
When the summer moon turns mellow,
And the nights are getting cold
.
Pupil 5. When the squirrels hide their acorns,
And the woodchucks disappear;
Then we know that it is autumn,
Loveliest season of the year.
Song 1
Can you hear the raindrops?
Listen to the wind in the tree tops
It’s cold and wet today
We can’t go out to play.
Hear the pitter pet of the raindrops?
Listen to the wind in the tree tops.

(Autumn with her sons come in.)

G. Autumn. Nice to see all of you. No doubt, it is autumn. I always go for many walks and watch my property. I see that pupils and teachers are at school. Animals have much food. If there is something wrong, my dear sons help me to correct my mistakes.

(At the same moment the little dwarf is entering.
He is riding a bike and singing a song)

Dwarf.     I’m a little funny dwarf,
                Funny dwarf, funny dwarf.
                I’m a little funny dwarf,
                Funny nice dwarf.
                I’m playing all day long,
All day long, all day long
                I’m riding my bike
My bike. Now it’s very cold.
It’s cold here. I’ve never felt cold. In my country it’s usually warm. There is neither cold nor rain there. Where am I?  Who are you?

G. Autumn. I’m Golden Autumn and they are my sons September, October and November.

Dwarf.   Golden Autumn? You’ve got a big family. I’ve never heard about you or your sons. Tell us about your sons.

G. Autumn. I always say they all are the best sons. But they differ from each other. May each of them tell his own story!

September. Hi, dear dwarf and dear pupils. I’m the first autumn son. My mother  Golden Autumn calls me “Honey” or “Sweet son”. Why? It’s easy to explain. Because we can eat much honey in September. And I also like to study. So, my mum hasn’t any problems school study.  I hope your parents haven’t ones.

October. I am October, the second autumn son. Our mum calls me “The richest” son and she is right again. Look! What a heavy basket I have! It is full of fruit and vegetables. Everyone knows: I’m not greedy. Please, taste my apples, plums and eat these vitamins all the year round.

November. The third autumn son greets you now. My mum calls me “the most romantic” son. She tells the truth, really. Maybe lots of you find me too rainy, cold and gloomy. But I’m sure, you have much time to dream when it’s raining in the street and you are sitting in front of the windows near the fireplaces and remember your summer adventures. And…
G. Autumn. Stop, stop, stop, my dear. Don’t be a boaster.

Dwarf. Golden Autumn, your sons are not boasters, but I know a boy…

The  poem “A Boaster” (p3)
P 1: We know a boy – 2t
       And Johnny is his name.
       He looks at us
       And always says the same.

Johnny: It is not interesting to swim,
              It only makes me laugh.
I like to ski, I do that well.
              But swimming is dull enough.

P 2: When winter comes
        We ski in the wood
        And play there many games.
Johnny comes here in his coat and hood
        And always says the same.

Johnny: It is not interesting to ski,
              It only makes me laugh.
I like to swim, I do that well.
              But skiing is dull enough.

P 3: Oh, Johnny dear – 2t
        The same we always here!
        But we don’t see
        You swim or ski, -
Both water and snow you fear.

P 4: Don’t waste your time!
       Your speech is fine
But at sports you’re very poor.
Now it’s clear: you are, indeed,
       A boaster, to be sure.

The song
Leaves in the autumn came tumbling down,
Scarlet and yellow, russet and brown,
Leaves in the garden were swept in a heap,
Trees were undressing ready for sleep.
Red leaves and yellow leaves
Orange leaves and brown,
Leaves are dancing everywhere
Happily dancing down.
September.The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush
.
G. Autumn.  My sons are not boasters but they are the best story – tellers in the world,
Dwarf.     September, start your tale, please!
September. All right. Be quiet and listen. I’ll tell you a tale about “The Magic Axe”.   Once upon a time there lived a woman with her son Peter. They were very poor and had no work. That’s why his mother was very sad.
Mother.    I’m getting older and older. I can work very little now. Listen to me, Peter. We are very poor. We must do something. We have no money at all.
Peter.       I try and try to get work.
Mother.    I know, my son, it isn’t your fault. There is no work here. You should go somewhere, look for work and than you maybe will come back happy.
Peter.       That’s  a very good idea! Please, mother, give me a loaf of bread and I’ll start at once.
Mother.    Take this bread and good luck to you!
Peter.       Good – bye, dear mother!
Mother.    Good – bye, dear son! I hope you’ll be all right!
(Peter waves his hand)
September. Peter walked for a long time and at last he came to a wood.
Peter.       What a thick wood! Oh, how tired and hungry I am! I’ll take a little loaf of bread.
(Just as he is going to bite it, an ugly old woman in a black hood comes up to him)
Old Woman. What have you got there, young man?
Peter.          It’s a piece of bread.
Old Woman.  Please, give me some bread.
Peter.         This is all that I have.
Old Woman. I’m a poor old woman. I’m so hungry and tired.
Peter.          Here you are. You will like it.
Old Woman. Your bread is very good. Thank you. Well, young man, you’re very kind. Now I want to do something very good to you. I’ll give you a magic axe. It will help you. Take it. Do you want to take the axe?
Peter.       Yes, I shall be glad to have it.
( The  Old Woman disappeared)
September. Then Peter went to town and had a lot of work. He worked hard and magic axe helped him to earn much money. A year passed and Peter decided to come back home. He went through the wood.
Peter.       I am happy. I’m coming back home. How is my mother? When the wood finishes, I’ll see her. And I’m very thankful to the Old Woman who gave me the magic axe.
( The Old Woman appears. Her face is hidden under the hood.)
Peter.      Oh, it’s you, Granny! I am glad to see you!
Old Woman. Are you glad? Why?
Peter.      I want to thank you for your magic axe. I’ve had much work and now – much money.
Old Woman. Don’t thank me. Take me with you. Don’t leave me alone. I am so old.
Peter.      Yes, very old.
Old Woman. I am so poor and lonely.
Peter.       Yes, you are poor and lonely. Well, I shall take you with me. I shall take care of you, my dear granny. My mother will like you too, we will look after you.
Old Woman. Will you?  Really?
Peter.       Yes, indeed.
Old Woman. Thank you. ( She turns round, throws back her hood and cloak and – we see a beautiful girl).
Peter.       Oh! Oh! Why? You are not an ugly old woman! You are young and beautiful!
Girl.         Do you really think so?
Peter.       Yes, I do. But I don’t understand anything. A moment ago you were an ugly old woman.
Girl.         Now, listen to my story. A horrible witch put a spell over me. She turned me into an old woman. She said: “If somebody takes care of you, you will become a little girl again”. But nobody wanted even to look at me. Only   you were so kind and saved me.
Peter.        And now I’ll marry you! (They dance). Well, it’s time to go home and tell mother everything.
Girl.         Let’s go at once and don’t forget your magic axe.
Peter.       It will help us to have work. Let’s go!
September. So, Peter found work and they lived happily together for many, many years.
Dwarf.       What a great tale we’ve heard. Thank you, September.
G. Autumn. And now it’s your queue, October. What is your story about?
October.   You know, I’m the richest and I’m a good gardener. I don’t like stories, but I like riddle about fruit and vegetables. I brought a very heavy basket and I’d like to give some sweet presents to everyone. My friend Elf will help me. Elf where are you?
Poem.          A little elf sat in a tree
Painting leaves to throw at me.
Leaves of yellow and leaves of red
Come tumbling down about my head.

Elf.             October I’m here. I prepared some riddles for our guests.

October.     Guess the riddles, please.

Elf.             This is the season, when  we eat apples and go to school. (Autumn)

October.     Thanks, dear Elf.

A Fall Song

Golden and red trees
Nod to the soft breeze,
As it whispers, "Winter is near;"
And the brown nuts fall
At the wind's loud call,
For this is the Fall of the year.
Now the days grow cold,
As the year grows old,
And the meadows are brown and sere;
Brave robin redbreast
Has gone from his nest,
For this is the Fall of the year.
P1: October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down -
October is red
And golden and brown.
P2: October leaves are lovely
They rustle when I run
Sometimes I make a heap
And jump in them for fun.
P3: Autumn leaves float quietly down
And form a carpet on the ground.
But when those leaves are stepped upon,
Listen for the crackling sound.
G. Autumn. Now, my son November, we are listening to you.
November. While we were talking about best presents, I remembered a tale “ A Present That Made Her Cry”. Have you ever thought about such a present? So, ready? Steady? Let’s continue our autumn tales. Once upon a time, a very long time ago there lived a young farmer with his wife and his old mother and father. They had no nice things in  their house, they didn’t know about many things which we have in our houses today. Once, the young man decided to look for work somewhere. He was lucky and after a time he came home bringing rich presents for everybody.

( The young farmer and his family enter. They bring in a trunk.
The man kisses everybody and takes the presents for them out of his trunk).
Young farmer. And here is a present for you, mother (gives her a shawl). Take it, dear mother! And this is for you, father (a rich fur cap). This for you, my dear wife (a silk dress).
All together. Thank you, my dear son! My dear husband!
Mother.      Let’s go and have dinner.
(The trunk is left in the middle of the room.
Soon the wife enters and goes up to the trunk).
Wife.          I’m so happy. And what else is in this trunk? My husband says he has some more presents for us. (Opens, takes some things, then steps back horrified). Oh, Good Havens! My husband has brought a beautiful girl! She is so pretty! And, of course, he loves her and not me! Oh, what shall I do? I am so unhappy. (She begins to cry. Father comes in).
Father.       Oh, my dear! Why are you crying?
Woman.     Oh, I am so unhappy! My husband has brought a beautiful girl! He does love me any more! (Goes on crying).
Father. Don’t cry. Perhaps, it is not so. Let me have a look at that girl. (Looks into the trunk). But there is no girl at all! It’s a man. Not very young, but quite strong and handsome. Stop crying! (He puts his hand on her shoulder. Mother comes in).
Mother.      What has happened here? my daughter, why are your eyes red? Have you been crying?
Father.       Yes, she has, but for no reason. Our son has brought a handsome man with him and our daughter thought it was a girl. Ha – ha – ha!
Mother.      What man? Where?
Father.       Here, in the trunk.
Mother.      Let me see him. Oh, but it is not a man! It is an old and rather ugly woman!
Father.       Woman? Let me look again!  - A man, of course, it’s a man!
Mother.      Let me see! A woman! It’s an old woman! Do you think I can’t tell a man from a woman?
(They begin to quarrel shouting ”It’s a man! / a woman! ”)
Wife.          Let me look now! (begins to cry again).  Oh, you are wrong. It’s a girl! So young and beautiful! Oh, dear!
Young farmer (enters). What is all this noise about?
F.M.W.      A handsome man! An ugly old woman! A pretty young girl! Oh, dear!
Young farmer. Oh, I see what it is! (Takes out a mirror). You are silly people! It is a looking – glass. You each saw yourselves in it! Listen:
Mother.     We must have it here and there…
Father.       When we shave or do our hair.
Wife.          Man or wife or baby small – our glass reflects them all.
All.             Don’t cry. Don’t make a buss. Now we have a looking – glass. (they begin t dance).
Dwarf.       Again a nice story. (Golden Autumn and her sons are going to leave). Where are you going Golden Autumn, autumn sons?
G. Autumn. We’ll continue our trip all over the country and watch the animals and birds and ask them if they are ready to winter. We are in a hurry.
(The dance for wind)
Poem. When autumn wind goes running,
 It does some magic things,
It gives the shadow dancing shoes,
It gives the bright leaves wings –
 When autumn wind goes running.
It curls the bonfires tail of smoke
And shares a little whispered joke
 When autumn wind goes running.
G. Autumn. Oh! Is it snowing or raining? Where is my magic umbrella? Umbrella? (Dance “Umbrella”).
Wind.           Dear Majesty! I’m here to tell you, the time is up for you to visit other continents. The children are waiting for you there. They have another party and eager to open the party “Autumn is coming”. All children in Ukraine like you and wanna be with you.
Song “I only wanna be with you”
G. Autumn. Thank you! It’s a great song.
Wind.           Dear Autumn, time is up for you. Winter is coming. Here is your sister!
G. Autumn. Oh, my dear sister! I’m glad to see you. Everything is ready for winter.    Look!  Children are ready for skiing, skating and playing snowballs.
Winter.       Good morning, good evening, good afternoon. Hello and good-bye! And how are you?  My greeting of good will and friendship to you!  And I am again in Ukraine. I will do everything for you to have wonderful time. And now, Autumn, we want to thank you very much for rich harvest, for good preparation.
All together. The pleasure is mine. But I really had a good time with children. I’m so happy. And before leaving I want to give all of you a musical present. I feel really good and cool.
Song “I feel good”
Autumn.      I’m in a hurry. Good – bye, dear children. Good – bye, beautiful Ukraine!

All together. Good – bye, Autumn! Welcome Winter!
